Notes – Respite and Short Breaks
Date: 20/04/2023
Hosted by: Josh, Nickie & Gwen
PIWS Presentation – Davina
Davina from PIWS introduced those who attended to PIWS, why it was set up and its key aims and objectives and who their target audience is (families of a person with additional needs).
Promoted the Access Card and explained a little bit about this and the roll-out which is due Sept 2023.

Questions and AOB
Ishbel Hansen (SPCF) Accessibility – businesses and venues. Had not heard of the access card. Currently working with National Trust Gower (Rhosilli – Worms head area) – a possible opportunity to work together with PIWS.
Parent Carers raised that there is a misconception that people want free access to activities or hospitality. In reality they stated that this wasn’t what they wanted. They were happy to pay like any other family. But, like any other family they want the opportunity to be able to partake in an activity or attend a certain place and want it to be accessible to them.
Potential for shared project led, Gwen to investigate possibilities.
Preseli Cares Pembrokeshire Presentation
Joanne Hobson gave an introduction to the service and highlighted key barriers faced by carers which included things such as,
– Loneliness and isolation
– Rural area
– Transport provisions – for work etc
– Tourism – lack of affordable housing
– Access to communications/social media and support with all things digital. Digital isolation is a key area of concern with a lot of services and information being delivered online.
– Lack of Welsh language support
– Some areas of Pembrokeshire being quite far from support – results in long travel journeys to access support provisions
Plans to tackle key issues:
– To set up wellbeing hubs
– Community connectors
– Support to get to groups
AWF presentation
Gwen, Josh and Nickie of AWF provided project updates and hosted an open discussion/health check including all who attended to partake in a poll. Poll shared and results collated by AWF. Lack of information, lack of opportunities and financial barriers are citied as big barriers.
Nick Andrews Presentation
